Moses Cleaveland Papers 1780-1805 1796-1805

Moses Cleaveland (1754-1806) was a Connecticut lawyer, legislator and army officer who became the Director and agent for the Connecticut Land Company and agent for the Erie Land Company. He led its first surveying and exploring party into the Western Reserve in 1795 and founded the City of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1796. The collection consists of correspondence, land memorandums, journal abstracts, and military, financial and legal papers.
